In this day and age new things are happening at a pace unprecedented in human history. The advent of information technology has revolutionised the world. The concepts like ‘global village’ and ‘global culture’ are very much in place. This phenomenon has brought people from all corners of the world closer together upon a virtual platform for the first time ever. There is friction among people of different races, cultures and religions, as it bound to be.

Then we have our interesting political history. We have recently seen collapse of Soviet Union, and the rise of religious tension in the world. The influence of religious institutions upon governments is nevertheless on the decrease. Then we observe that our climate is deteriorating rapidly and irreversibly. We also now know that the oil reserves of the world are not going to last very long. There is a strong likelihood of fierce competitions among nation for the use to whatever fossil fuel is left.

The age of knowledge took its birth from the dark ages of our cultural history. We assumed that new scientific knowledge would enlighten us and deliver us from the clutches of poverty, disease, war and ignorance. But that has not happened quite the way we had expected in the beginning. We realise that science can create more critical problems for us than it can solves. And knowledge can be use to churn out information and information seeking systems that in turn become instrumental to constructs of power.

Due to all these and because of some other reasons people, I too believe, could become interested in exploring and strengthening their connection to their roots. They are resorting to affirm and re-establish their basic tribal identities. When people see a crisis looming they tend to shrink back into what is assuring and permanent. There is no sign of social panic observable yet. But the underlying causes of most of the world conflicts today do suggest that there is something like this, if not exactly this, going on.

Any activity is based on supply and demand. If you analyse it you will know that when the supply is less and the demand is more , there will be the Human greed to grab. When the supply far exceeds the demand, there will not be any clash and everyone will be getting his share.

What this has got to do with racism? Plenty.

Racism is one way to try to control or eliminate an entire group of ethnic people by another group. There may be many issues like Job, Social security, cultural protection ... you name it.

Also, strange it may seem, this so called Racism does not stop at that . Slowly , after the elimination of one "race" , the sub eliminations will start. For example, in India if you say that all Indians are one "race" then they will use another subdivision called ' Caste" or some such thing and seek protection.

so, what these , in effect , means is that racism is used for discrimination in any economic activity. It is said that Australia allows certain "races" inside freely and not certain others . This is because once another "race "' comes in they will lower the earnings of the other trace and competition will start.

When racism is used conveniently to insult or beat down a person or group, it shows a weakness or inability to deal with the situation in a proper or normal way.

The bigger malaise is not this type of abuse, but a more deep-rooted belief that indeed these n...... or in..... or ch....... are inferior to whites.

This is not only morally wrong but also factually incorrect. As a result this could lead to a misplaced superiority complex among the whites and prove to be an unmistakable prescription for downfall. Instead of feeling guilty for racism, the time has come to realize how foolish it is.

racism, as any prejudice, is created by the ruling classes to divide the masses. It is a very effective tool and it keeps the masses fighting amongst themselves and not fighting the real causes of inequality - a small minority with the majority of the power and money in control of the majority with nothing except their labour. Once people unite they will realise and take the power away from the minority. The minority or ruling class know this so they inject racism and sexism and homophobia to divide people.

Prejudice is also very effective in keeping wages down, which i turn benefits the ruling classes again.

there is no excuse for racist remarks of any kind. what i can tell you is that there are a few explanations...............

we are ignorant to an extent

we can all be wary of new things, people, trends, etc

i personally feel out of place when as a uk citazen walk into my corner shop, say hello to the indian family running the shop, smile etc and hear them talk in tongue in their own secret coded language, i get paranoid, when only a few minuates previously this family where speaking very good english to me.......thats bad manners

although the matter of verbally/phsyically/emotionally abusing somebody because of their race etc is disgracful as the fact is that person did no wrong, this bullying must stop, not all humans 'feel the need' to hurt others, i believe whites respect black people more nowadays than any other time before, the minority in this situation is coloured people from china, india etc etc we have became more friendler and less threatened by usa black people.

It is a natural human state to have prejudices; for instance I myself will walk for miles if it means I don't have to eat Brussels sprouts. Similarly you will find people who don't like coffee, mustard, pork etc.
All animals have a distrust within their own species, usually for territorial or sexual purposes, and will chase off any animal that is not of their flock/herd/pride etc. but will disregard smaller, weaker animals considering them either as prey or as useful helpers (tic birds grooming rhinos being an example).
Humans are basically all of a same general size and shape and consume the same resources, and in primal times this meant competition for food and shelter. As early man became gradually more civilised, the small prejudices (sprouts, remember) began to merge with the need to establish territory and thus those who were different became targets for conquest. Naturally as all civilisations are thinking like this mistrust can only be multiplied. There are now today two kinds of racism, the first being the blind obedience to the traditional stance as above, the second being the process of some thought,as follows: It can be proven that all races are not generally physically the same. As a general rule, Asians do not have a great physicality but are mentally superior to Caucasians. In turn, Caucasians are physically superior to Asians but mentally inferior. Negroids are physically superior but mentally inferior.
From this you can draw your own conclusions to make whatever theory you like.
It's rather unfortunate that academic exercises like this leak out into the general public who aren't trained to deal with it. You end up with a situation like Wolverhampton: The Afro-Cars hate the Africans and vice versa, and both hate the Asians. The Indians hate the Pakistanis, The Pakistanis hate the Bangladeshis, but they all hate blacks ( blacks being shorthand for Afro-Cars and Africans). B Both Blacks and Asians seek to exclude each other and whites from their local geography, Surprisingly the tolerance factor is strongest in whites- they're less likely to judge other people by colour or creed although this is changing as more immigrants come in, hence the rise of the BNP.
Now, into this mix throw in religion. It is unfortunately the muslims who are the most guilty culprits of religious intolerance today but as other religions come under threat they will steadily become more militant. Already the Catholics, Sikhs and Hindus are beginning to stir.

So, what was once a biological imperative has mutated into a defining characteristic. In days of yore racist tendencies were harmlessly defused by jokes and jibes:
"nig-nog","snowflake","roundeyes", etc. and if it went too far it got stamped on. But we aren't allowed to do that any more, and so the only outlet for it is covert and can't be controlled by authority. So it festers and grows until it's no longer covert but still can't be controlled by authority.
It's human to be racist, but all humans want a quiet life and if racism can be diffused harmlessly it's usually the best policy. Sadly the PC brigade can't see it and so here in England we're gearing up for civil war, believe me.

Because some people are too narrowminded to be able to see people as people, no matter what their colour, creed etc.

Also I think alot has to do with peoples up bringing, especially within todays "troubles" with different cultures, there seems to be a "revenge" attitude to alot of young people who haven't been taught that racism is not on.

Makes for a tough and harsh world.

In this day and age, more humans feel the need to talk about, fight, deny, stomp out and do something about racism.

That there are racists is something I can accept. That there are more against it than ever before makes me sleep better at night.

That is a very basic question. Humans as such are very insecure in their approach and behaviour, they tend to make a small set ou of the existing set. This is not only in the form of race, it actually always narrows down to their caste, and origin, etc...
This is largely to retain their social circle after highlighting their identity and root cause of their bond.
Actually if we are rightly educated then we shall keep away from such ir-relevant racial discriminations, but for that we have to be rightly educated and next we should be confident of ourselves.

1- Media keeps hammering the subject into our heads day and night!
2- Parents' egos wish their kids to be an identical copy of them,so they try to make them hate all who are different to keep them as close and similar as possible.
3- Most people think "loving us" includes "hating them", so they think the are being the perfect member of their community by being racists!
