Centrino just refers to power-saving energy efficiency features, but you'd want to check the processor speed independently of that. The P4M is good, it stands for "Pentium 4 mobile" - I'm not under the impression it has any heat problems. Celeron is a discount/entry-level processor.

If you really want to be on the safe side and know a lot about computers you could buy a processor that can handle a clock frequency of up to 3.0+ Ghz and then change your BIOS and underclock it down to 2.0 that way its made to handle much more heat but won't produce nearly as much.
The faster the processor, the more voltage it requires so the more energy it will consume.
If this "hot climate" you speak of is an office or home in 95 degree weather, that's nothing new, computers were made for that and anything will suffice. However if your a geologist and it's going to be baking in the sun all day, no matter what you get your going to need some extra protection for it. Gels, Fans or Liquid Cooling Systems, not to mention external protection

None of the above. The thing is this... If you sacrifice speed for system temp or what ever, your surrounding area will still have an influence. No matter which you choose, get your self a case with a decent enough cooling system. That might be able to help, especially if your environment is hot and humid.

well, p4 is much faster but very hot. Celeron M is slower but cooler. centrino is some sort of mobile technology, not comparable to pentium or celeron
