It's all about the direct drive. In my impatient youth I bought belt drives; worst idea ever. They wore out remarkably quickly and were a b1tch to play on. I had to put up with them for 18 months before I could afford direct drives. Five years later, I'm spinning on 1210s!

yes direct drive are way better. they dont really wear out, they stop and start quicker and are industry standard. belt drive are for those on a budget who like to waste their money. Go second hand technics 1210 any day

Direct drive win hands down.
Faster starting, faster stopping, faster pick up - easy to cue/scratch.
Belt drive is pretty crap even though its the cheaper option.
Also if you learnt in belts you would have to re adjust to directs as the pickup speeds are quicker.

any decent dj wouldn't even contemplate using belt drives. 1210's all the way.

i like ma cd decks infinate tunes and less space but if i went for turntables they wouldn't have belts ! do they still make them lol
