I'm a male and I dont know if alchohol was in my system the night before my fiance conceived our baby. I know that I did not have any in my system the night before but I am worried that it might have been in my system prior to the night before. I just need a peice of mind and hear if anyone else had a healthy baby but with alchohol involved could having it in my system the night before conceiving a baby cause birth effects ? or do I just worry to much?

other than impairing your judgement it has no effect -- like the 1st answer said, my Mom's generation smoked and drank (moderately) thru their pregnancies without the catastrophic effects that the warnings you see nowadays would seem to make you believe (not that the changes in attitudes aren't a good thing, they are a very good thing)

You're being paranoid for sure. Alchohol isn't going to have an effect on a fetus that was concieved during a drunk night or two. Many many many people get pregnant with one night drunk love fest. All having healthy children. Just no more drinking for the soon-to-be mama. And even if just you drinks, and you both decide to have another love fest....you aren't going to hurt the baby, only if the mother drinks now, after the baby is concieved.

Alcohol wont cause birth defects unless your an abuser, I'm sure you will have a very happy and healthy baby so don't worry. I'm sure you are just excited and hoping everything goes very well and its very normal for both mother and father to be to have these sorts of thoughts.

Make sure you go to the 18-20 week scan so you can see how healthy bub is and put piece at mind.

Don' worry.

The effect of alcohol on the sperm that took part in the conception was minimal.
The long term effects of alcohol on sperm are however a different story. I don't think this is you, I think you are being sensible and taking what precautions you can.

People should use common sense when trying not to harm a developing baby but to do this they need to have the information.
It is true that many things affect the baby, such as Tylenol, Caffeine, Anti-Depressants, Maalox etc but we should look at this in perspective. Talk to a healthcare professional if you are worried.

Good Luck !

Sad, but no doubt true, that is the REASON for most pregnancies. But NO alcohol in the father the night before does not reflect any long term effects on the baby. Obsessive drinking can however reduce the sperm count in males.

i think your being paranoid. many people have been extremely drunk when they conceived. both male and female. my mom said when she was little they didn't have warnings, she drank the whole nine months (i'm pretty sure i'm ok). i know other parents who back before warnings, have done the same with no adverse affects. not that i would recommend it.
