Social and peer pressure, in relation to conformity, are the building blocks of cultural norms and popular belief systems within a society, at a certain level they are required and quite neccesary to the establishment of accepted behavior. However in social and peer sub groups these same principles become bounderies and limit the abilities for thought expansion beyond the so called 'norms'. There is a gray area between these two aspects, one being an extreme, that must be evaluated by the individual regarding decision making. Ethical and moral perceptions need be adhered to within the structure of society as a whole, but the individual's need for expansion and expression must also be balanced against those values to establish an equalibruim between what is good for the many and what is good for the individual.
