How to show height:

On a topographic map, the brown contours indicate shapes of hills and valleys. Every point along the contour line has the same altitude, but every 5th brown contour line will have a number denoting the (average mean) height above sea level. The distance (interval height) between each line should be written on the map. You may see blue contour lines in a body of water that work the same way.

- coloured by diffrent colour,, green shows lower land, yellow or orange shows highland, and red or brown shows mountains.
- by the number of height of a place that shown on the maps

its called a relief map. they normally use lines. also some use different colors or shading.
