Okay. First, we eat animals. We are at the top of the chain.
Second, animals do not groom themselves properly. they have no sense of ethics nor integrity. They do not wear clothes and seldom bathe. Now how is that not an insult?
If you call your friend an idiot, will he get insulted? If you call an idiot an idiot, he might not get insulted if he knows he is one.
Okay, so humans might be animals, but basically we are above them, else we wouln't eat them nor make them do work for us without pay.

Because people are not necessarily "animals", so who wouldn't get offensive if s/he was called an animal? That is why we are called "people" rather than "animals". It's totally okay to call an animal, an animal because they are "animals".
