Hmm.. not so sure about this one.
Youtube was originally 'by the people for the people' and was the mecca for sharing videos where ppl had total freedom but now it is going to be corporate-owned, expect more censorship and blatant advertising of stuff.
Not a good step forward in my opinion.

Totally agree with David.
Yahoo should have bought Youtube, it 's a very popular website.
Anyway, Google has made very good acquisitions lately, plus they give a lot of free publicity to free software (Firefox and other stuff like that). Good moves keeping them popular.
Lets hope they keep it that way.
But I would have prefered Yahoo buying youtube since Google already has a video service, for, and competition always benefits users.

YES and NO
google is trying to be the biggest in the video industry of the net
it allows people to put those videos on their websites
This servers as advertising for them
they are trying to be the supreme in the field
If google gets the market it will be the only thing avaliable and if they decide to change stuff Oh My Gosh we dont know what may happen
it like the was between Coke and Pepsi
once one of them gets the market they have full control and the customers will suffer
BUT
when there is competiton THE CUSTOMERS BENIFT
so my personal View
is NO

In my opinion Google are becoming the Tesco of the Internet: far too big and powerful.
Maybe Yahoo! should have bought YouTube instead!

It's perfectly acceptable. Although I hope that Google's purchase will herald the beginning of a new age, there's an infinite supply of crap on YouTube.

That's capitalism for you.
Personally, I don't worry so much about who owns something as what it does and what it costs (unless I find them really reprehensible, like Murdoch or tobacco firms) - but what is to stop someone else setting up a site with the same structure and purpose, if they don't like it?
