I would like to ask a sensitive question, i'm sorry if i offends some people, but i just would like to know. Do you feel its right for people to practice their own religion which they feel confortable with even though they have converted and then they find that they dont find any truth in that religion and they convert back to their 1st religion.
Do you think its right? Can the goverment interfere in the changes tthat we make?

I had to add in...All your answers are very helpful. But the story is I have a friend who was a Christian and due to love married this muslim guy. Now they have 3 kids and she just cant see any good in Islam as she was before being a Christian. She told me she felt more calm and peaceful when she was a Christian. Now, she is thinking of changing back her religion but knowing the Malaysian court its hard for her (ex. Lina Joy), and also fear for her children. One of her Muslim friends told her(for example) that even though her husband lets say is a drunk or womanizer as long as he is a Muslim, the court will still give her kids to him since she converted back to Christianity. I pity my friend but the goverment here makes it so hard . In other words you are forced to live and die with the religion that you do not accept and just put on a show when you go back to your in-laws place.

I am a Christian and I am in no way offended by your question.
When we worship we should be comfortable. If we try to change religions and don't accept and follow the tenets of the new religion we have not truly converted.
I would not be inclined to change religions. I do not believe a government should interfere in any way with religion as long as the religion does not endanger lives or safety of individuals or groups of individuals and as long as the religion does not attempt to take away other people's rights.
As a Christian I freely and voluntarily practice my religion and believe all people should be Christian, but I would never force my religion on any other person--even on my children. All should be free to choose.
Government should not prohibit religion nor should it promote or stress any religion over any other or over no religion at all.
Do what you believe is right.

Well Sarah, we are all human and to err is human and God knows that. I think the main reason people would convert to Islam as it's already been mentioned is marriage (Especially in Malaysia where the girls are so pretty!) I know a few ex-pats that have done this, but it's for the love of the girl not God that they have changed their religion. If they are allowed to switch back to their previous religion afterwards then I think it's up to them and not for any government to interfere.

Not sure where you live but most countries have absolutely NO say in what religion we choose.
Your friend has the right to change. I was brought up catholic and when I was 20 converted to being a christian (non denominational).. Later I got into wicca. i still bellieve in God, or "A" god but I also believe in many of the Pagan ways.
Pagans were here before christians and all of the pagan holidays were taken from them and changed into what we have now, christmas was Yule, having nothing to do with christ.
I could go on, but how I believe is MY choice, not yours, not the government or my neighbor! I have to live with, or die with my choices...
NEVER let others think for you

I am from the West...a deomocratic community...
You should have the right to practice any religion you wish, at any time you wish...as long as it does not interfere with a free democratic process.
Where I am from, religion and governance are separate; so it's very easy for me to make these statements. Our laws are not dictated by any dominant religion, they are dictated by society and a popular vote. To change a law simply takes a number of people to sign a statement wishing for this to be done and the process of change begins....
I think with the current political events, a democratic society has the absolute right to formulate guidelines for safe and fair practice.
As with the Australian government and their policy on Islam, I think those boundaries are fair and create an envelope of comfort for non-islamic peoples...i wish my country would do the same.

Hi Sarah, if you are talking about converting to Islam and trying to revert back to original religion, and in Malaysia, I think you will face problem. Malaysia is an Islamic country, and the religious court do weild some clout in the community. They will frown on conversion out of Islam and may interfere, not ther Govt. So you will face problem.

That ye ask is not as sensitive as it looks. Stupid those people are who converted and then convert back to their olde faithe, save for the ones forced to do so. Well, even so, I tell ye, there is nothing wrong with that, and when something goes wrong, enter the autoridades, especially involving the violation of other's rights.

No, the government cannot tell you what religion you should have faith in. Of course, I'm speaking from the US. I think you have to be true to yourself. It doesn't matter what you believe in, contrary to what some religious zealots will scream. What makes your heart happy and your mind at peace is the only thing that matters. Remember, religion is just an act of faith. It doesn't matter what religion, the only true purpose is that you HAVE FAITH!

I have a solution for you. Move to Australia or Hong Kong or Singapore because it's not 100% Muslim Country. There, your friend could have freedom of speech, freedom of religion.
