If the ground isn't too frozen, you can always find food under rocks..
You can also get crickets by the bunch..and keep them on hand..
Mill worms will keep nearly forever in the fridge.

Well as the act of 1968 you no longer can keep garden toads as pets because too many people where dying of a rare disease called "semitransmitfever." If you get caught with one you have to pay a fine. And it never comes off your record.

you can get all sorts at most pet shops they come in containers that you can keep and feed them to keep them going, your toad will love it
