Actually, there are two reasons...Many have said because it gives the opponents less to grab which is true, but the other reason is that it holds the padas where they belong. Thigh pads stay on the thighs and Knee pads stay on the knees. As for the UK chum who thinks it's girlie, I find it interesting that Rugby players who try american football aren't able to hack it, yet a washed up NFL Wide receiver can go over to the UK and be a dominant force in "their" sport!LOL! Line your best rugby player up against NFL players like Ray Lewis w/o pads and your rugby players will soon find out why pads are necessary. It's easy to tackle someone from the side or from behind as in Rugby, but in the American game it's face-to-face, smash-mouth contact!

American Football Trousers

Because American Football is a very camp sport like most games over there.

That is why they wear tight trousers, How else can you explain fully grown men wearing body armour & a crash helmet to play a ball game???

It's all a little but girly & sissy isn't it.

For reals mans sport see: Rugby

Full contact, no armour or headgear, bloodbins if you get cut (Stiched up & thrown back in)

Plus the added bonus of playing other countries in the world to find out who is best. Current World Champions are ENGLAND. Unlike American sports which were invented by the Americans & which are so poor they have only managed to export their games to er.... Canada ha ha

'World Series' Baseball???? Who else plays in this 'world' Series?? Bit of a joke really.

Also why do they call American football 'football'? They rarely use the feet & the ball is actually Oval. Yet they try to hijack the name football from the real game played with a ball & the foot & call it soccer?????

What was the question again? Oh yes, American footballers tight trousers?? Very Camp.

Actually, it's not about sex appeal OR mobility. Loose trousers give the opposition something else to grab to throw an opponent to the ground. Tight trousers take that away. It's all about preventing places to grab for a tackle.

I don't know about spankable because I'm not into that, but I do love to see them trotting around the field in those pants!

so the other team can't grab them and pull them so easily. It's the same idea as the new Rugby shirts as sported by the English team.

The real mystery is why Ozzie rules player wear such short shorts....

Because baggy trousers just get in the way in such a sport. It's because of mobility, not fashion.

Not a satorial decision, rather a practical one. Tight fitting trousers and shirts give opponents less to grab onto making it harder to tackle or hold you up. I suppose using the same logic they should also oil themselves up.

Loose trousers are 1. difficult to run in, and 2. easy for oponents to grab. that simple.

The reason is loose clothing is easier for competitors to grab on to and tackle the players.
