Im writing my resume and going to hand it out to random cafes/bakeries/restaurants/stores.
What do I say? Should I leave it with somebody working there if I cant see the manager, or should I ask to see the manager?
If its for cafes and restaurants and I can't see the manger do I leave it with an employee? Should I choose a time when it would be least busy?

Im only 15 (live in australia)!

I have no clue about this sorry. any info you could give would be great!!

Go in, preferably on a Friday afternoon because people tend to be in good moods then. Walk in, and introduce yourself to the first employee you see by shaking his/her hand and saying your name. Then ask to speak with the manager.
They will either:
a) tell you that the manager is not here
b) tell you one second, and then get the manager for you
c) tell you that they are the manager

In situation a, tell them to hang on to your resume and forward it to the manager when he/she returns.

in situation b, wait patiently until the manager approaches you. introduce yourself and tell them you are interested in a part-time/full-time job and that you would like to leave your resume with them.

in situation c, say "Oh I'm sorry, my mistake," then, introduce yourself and leave resume with them (like in situation b).

hope that helps! good luck!

dont listen to pao, employers love people who show initiative, i personally always look through resume of people who have called in with them before advertising or looking at posted ones.
I also make notes on the back of the resume with regards to appearance, attitude etc. so that I can recall who they are even if its weeks later
This is a really good way to get a casual job, if the manager isnt there ask for whoever is in charge, try not to just leave it with just anyone. the person is charge will know what the manager expects them to do in situations like this.
Tell them u are really keen to work (if you have no skills say you are happy to work for a day for free to show how quick to learn u are etc) if you have skills tell them briefly when handing over the resume (keep it short, they are often very busy people) I would also be doing this at the beginning of the week, they are less busy and wil hve some idea if any staff didnt show up for weekend shifts etc

dress as you're able to for the interview - photograph is extremely substantial in merchandising. carry close the jacket interior the vehicle and positioned it on in the previous you walk into the organization. You in no way understand who may be walking for the time of the foyer in simple terms as you're handing out your resume - and the receptionist is lots extra probably to get a "who became that?" once you're finding fantastic. good success.

please do attend on a non-busy day..... tuesdays are a good day because they are least busy....

first write an introductory letter for yourself to leave with your resume when there is no owner or manager available...

It is quite appropriate to ask to see the manager

Say something like:

Hello, my name ________. I would like to speak to the person who is in charge of hiring staff. (If the peson you approach indicates someone else you can ask that person to introduce you to right person.)

When the person in charge is not present offer your resume and intorductory letter sealed in an envelope to the person and ask them to pass it on...

When the person in charge is present intriduce yourself and remember to smile a lot. If you are seeking part time work then be up front that is what you are seeking if full time then be up front about that...

No one expects a 15 yo to have experience, no one expects them to be really good at interviews however there are things you can do to get yourself as ready as you can be.

Do role playing job interviews with a friend or parent.

dress to impress every time.... if you are going to work in the hospitality industry remember that cleanliness and grooming are all very important.... make sure your hands are clean ... make sure your hair is tidy.. and if you wear makeup keep it light... remember there is a chance that people in charge of a business may interview you on the spot so be ready for interviews every time...

find out what kind of questions are common in job interviews in your industry ie hospitality.

Some questions that are common to all job interviews would be

a) why do you want to work here.
(It is okay to say because this is close to my home and I wont have transport issues getting to work, it is also okay to say because I have eaten here and really liked the way you do things, and it is okay to say because I have heard this is a good place to work.... it is okay to say all of the above.)

b) what qualities do you bring to our business
Some answers to this question could be. "I am a fast learner and I love working with people." or " I am a good listener" or "I really enjoy working with food" or "I am good at organising myself" or any other quality you may have.... I would suggest a whole collection of things together..... think about what you are good at, write them down and remind yourself of what you are good at before every time you go out to apparoach people...

c) have you any experience
(In your answer include all kinds of experience including cooking and washing up at home and serviing food to people at family functions etc... and of course if you have done cooking at school include that too..)

AND most important of all.....

Dont give up.... and do make sure you follow up ..... when you leave your resume at a place go back a few days later and ask to speak to the person in charge and ask them if they received the resume you left for them.... if they didnt have another on hand to give them... and ask them if they will consider you for a position in the future....

Go back again every few weeks.... at the longest....

An employer who see you are really trying hard will be impressed...

and as a special hint..... while you are waiting to see the person in charge if you see some empty cups on a table take them to the counter and clear the tables while you wait..... you will get hired... as soon as there is a job....

smile and be friendly to customers in the shop while you are there... and speak confidently...

This is a lot to take in but you can do all this if you put your mind to it..
