Yes, I was spanked for discipline when growing up. I don't think it's so bad, if not done to abusive amounts. Children don't have much long term memory at all, and they need an immediate consequence to learn some things.
I think society is now allowing children to go the other extreme and be in control,l when they still need thier parents to be the adult.

My girlfrind spanked me last night...does that count. ....ok...all joking aside No I wasnt spanked much as a kid....maybe a little. I was raised by parents who were pshychologists. They would never think of spanking kids.
Actually I think there are extremely rare times when you need to spank kids but those times are very rare. Like when a 1 year old child wants to constantly run into the street or when a 3 year old has an urge to inflict physical violence on younger kids or animals. Otherwise times outs work better.

I think there is a difference between spanking and beating the crap out of a child.
But sometimes, spanking can lead to beating, just through naturalizaion.
I was spanked/ mildly beaten as a child, and I didn't turn out too bad (if i can say so myself lol), but i also think it didn't really help me learn why i was in trouble. Was more fixated on trying to not get beaten.
It depends on the individual i guess. Lots of people like to blame their past for their future. But a spank now and then as a burst of anger shouldn't do too much damage (if any at all). But i'd discourage it as it can lead to a beating one day, and really serves no purpose other than showing the kid that parent's angry.

I wasn't spanked often as a child--but let me tell you, I clearly remember it--even though it wasn't harsh or cruel. My parents used it sparingly and I knew that If I got spanked, I had really done something wrong and I never repeated those actions again!!!! I have spanked my children once in a great while and they know what I did as a child--listen when mom and dad are talking!

Spare the rod, spoil the child. if the punishment ain't severe, the child wont remember it. children are still children, not adults. u cant always expect to reason it out with them.
Beating sounds violent and unreasonable, while abusing depends on severity, I dont think there is a good word which means disciplinary action which allows inflicting some pain on a child. i got caned sometimes when i was a child but as i grew up i realised my parents kind intentions of educating me. but there are really some tough kids wont even listen even if u spank them
its a fine line between criminal physical abuse and spanking a kid for his own good. it really depends on the mental state of the parent and severity of the punishment. stuff like cigarette burns or belt buckle whipping or unresonable abuse are of course no nos. these are more like torture.

I was spanked, and I spanked my kid. He says it didn't teach him anything, but he never did do the things again he got spanked for doing in the first place. I don't think you should beat a kid, but I see nothing wrong with an disciplinary spanking.

Spanked is too nice of a word for what my father did to me. Yes, it did affect me til this day. I have never spanked my own kids. I prefer the 'dicuss and learn' method.

Yes it does..little spanks on the hand no,but being spanked hard and for most things yes..Children feel really ashamed. And i believe it doens't teach children anything really. I mean,you do something bad and your going to be beaten for it??? it makes no sense at all!!! I really dont believe in hitting or spanking at all. You want to teach a child something punish them correctly. Take away their toys,no tv,games..give them chores!!! but hitting?? it solves nothing,only more problems come from it,and then those kids will grow up and may torment their own kids and on and on...

Yes I was I haven't been for some time ( I'm 14 1/2) and the way my mother does it wasn't in a mean way she told me why she was and after a while came back in and huged me and let me know she still loved me I think it depeneds on the way a person does it
