i have an idea but do you play say 1st 4th 5th then repeat it? as you can tell im a beginner

It's nothing all that exciting - merely the movement from one chord to another according to some fairly well defined rules. In a really good progression (for instance), the bass (bottom) note alone if played separately should sound like a pleasing tune in its own right, and obviously the same applies to all the other notes contained in a chord.
One of the easiest ways of experiencing this sort of thing is to listen carefully to "God Save The Queen", paying particular attention to the bass notes - better still if you've got a good hi-fi system and you can attenuate the treble and middle frequencies. There's not much more to say now - just LISTEN !

it means the sequence that you play them in which will sound right or wrong according to musical rules. there are some excellent books on music theory for beginners. the ones recommended by the Associated Board of Music are brilliant.
