Dual core is obviously better than single core. Though the individual CPUs (on a duo core) are clocked slightly lower than the legacy P4, the boost in performance is significant. The OS divides tasks under execution between two CPUs and this results in a significantly faster and responsive system.

Measuring performance by MHz is no longer appropriate. There are several new technologies being implemented in CPUs as well as increased Cache memory that really blurs this line. Put simply, operating as a single core CPU, the Intel Core 2 will perform noteably better than a Pentium 4 2GHz. And using both cores it will potentially run MUCH faster (especially when you run multiple applications or use applications that are multi-threaded which can use both cores at the same time).

Of course
(Duo is a dual core processor)
because Duo processor comes with 2 independent processing cores and 2 indepent L2 Cache for both core

Duo processor also has 1066 Mhz FSB ,P4 400 MHz FSB

Duo processor has better power consumption compared to P4
