I don't live in india but as far as i know it's Kali Chaudash & Hanuman Puja.

It is a national holiday in India (one of the three-the other two being January 26 -Republic Day and August 15-Independence day). October 2 is the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi who is a highly respected National Leader).
