I have absolutely NO IDEA where most of these answers are coming from. As some people have posted, the correct answer is FRANCE. After France, the Next nation was The Netherlands; and after that, Spain. Britain recognized the US in 1783, and John Adams was the US's first ambassador.

Great Britian did not recognize America as a sovereign nation until after the War of 1812, some 35 years after the American Revoloution. France on the other hand recognized the USA as a sovereign nation during the Revoloutionary war and sent troops to help defeat General Cornwallis and end that war.
So the answer is France. That is also why France gave us the Statue of Liberty. Viva la France! Viva la Liberty!
BTW, tell your sweetheart that Morocco was a Colony of France at that time, so it was not capable of official recognition of America. But in a Round about way, since Morrocco was part of France, he is right. (Just to keep you out of the Doghouse.)

The Native Americans are descendants from Asia. I don't recognize or give credit to anyone else who didn't originate from out of that lineage.
America might not have had a name known as America, nor did the first people know where they were.
However this nation was FREE until Europeans came. The word "FREE" is heavily misrepresented and misinterpreted. What is free? I don't know what that is. Nothing is free in America.
