Why do so many people get so uptight about bad grammar? Do you think your (supposed) perfect grammar skills make you a better person? I mean it's one thing if the whole question or the whole answer is riddled with mistakes, typos, etc., but unless there are so many mistakes that it is literally impossible to decipher what they're trying to say, what could you possibly accomplish besides being an aggrivation to others?

That's "aggravation", by the way. And, yes, a deep frisson of emotion runs up my spine whenever I see a misplaced apostrophe that I can correct. More seriously, grammar and spelling are important because they are a shared code and if you misuse them you place an extra onus on the reader to interpret what you're trying to communicate - so bad grammar is actually rather rude to your interlocutor.

I see that you used perfect grammar. Most people cannot stand to read something that used improper grammar. Its like reading a book with a question mark in place of an exclamation point. It's not about being a better person, its about being able to read what you are looking at. You are taught grammar from the time you start school and it's kind of like..."If you don't know it by now." You know, not "I am soooooooo much better than you because you cannot use proper grammar."

For the most part it is just a majorly inconvienient pet peeve...lol.

Some people like to have it proper. not like sex at all they want to be able to understand what you are saying instead of ebonics or slang which are both inapporiate for many jobs and titles. also bc they are trying to pefect you for the world i mean you may not be a secretary but you need to know how to read and write things to have an intelligent conversation. bc if you look at what employers want they dont want a guy who will talk 50 miles per hour with words they dont know what they are saying and they want to hire someone that can do that incase.

I wouldn't say better grammar makes you a getter person, but communication is one of the most important issues. The better you are with communication, the easier someone can understand you. Remember, communication can mean money.

I think it is a superiority thing!
It is even more annoying when people make fun of the questions asked by people for whom English is obviously their second language.
If any of them had ever tried to learn a second language as an adult they would have more respect for others.

to initiate, i'm a Literature Graduate, so i think a undeniable experience of entitlement to my place on desirable grammar. to respond to your question: how else will human beings be taught while they have made a mistake? in case you left your gas-cap off and have been utilising down the constrained-get admission to highway with it dangling out, does not you prefer somebody to assert something? it is not probably hurting something, in spite of if it is going to depressurize your tank. How approximately in case you had spinach on your tooth? does not you prefer somebody to allow you understand, extremely than bypass around the full day with green on your gums? it is not hurting something, in spite of if it is extraordinarily embaressing, exceptionally in case you should meet somebody substantial. So mutually because it may seem nitpicky, it is a disservice to society and the persons who're in errors to not say something. Granted, we don't all ought to be rude snots approximately it (I, case in point, prefer to think of i'm very well mannered), however the incontrovertible fact that we are prepared to desirable somebody means we care that they have got an result with their words, and choose those words to be presented interior the superb possible easy. you does not prefer to stroll into an interview with spinach on your tooth... you in addition to mght does not prefer to stroll into an interview with a poorly-worded resume. Having been component to the hiring technique, in the adventure that your resume is poorly worded, you're exceptionally much immediately dropped to the backside of the stack. How else will you understand till somebody tells you which you have made an errors? it is ego to take it so in my view, till the guy is being quite rude approximately it. words are substantial. it is the two substantial to contemporary them genuine. this is all. - Edit - i could prefer to show to 3 above responses for the examples of the two rude AND well mannered advice on a thank you to respond to... see what I mean?

It is common for people who have inferiority complexes to point out other people's mistakes. It is their way of making themselves feel better. Don't let it get to you. They're insecure.

Thank you for your question.
