I have this problem. I know the absolute cure is antibiotics, but I find when I am taking them for other reasons, I will get a bladder infection. I have drank cranberry juice, and this seems to help. Anyone else's imput would be welcome.

females for whatever reason are prone to getting recurrent UTIs.

i get one at least once every few months. unfortunately i've been hospitalized for it 3 times b/c i usually don't get symptoms until my kidneys are infected!!

making cranberry juice a regular part of your diet will help reduce them. avoid using scented tampons or maxi pads for your menstrual cycle and try not to use perfumed soaps when showering-these can increase your risk of getting a UTI

talk with your doctor about how often you get these and make sure to get in to see him the minute you know you have one-antibiotics are the only things to totally cure one.

I guess you could try the cranberry juice thing but then all the sugar can't be good either, then you'd end up with a yeast infection or some other kind of infection. Try taking the antibiotics & eat a carton of yogurt (I can usually get away with 1/2 a carton) each day to avoid a yeast infection. Can't your doc give you a RX to help keep you from getting a bladder infection while treating the UTI??

Here is the best advice I can tell you to prevent UTI's from happening period. I also was a long time chronic sufferer and have not had one is 5 years of anti-biotics....

Prevention

Keep your genital area clean.

Wipe from front to back.

Drink plenty of fluids.

Urinate after sexual intercourse.

Avoid fluids that irritate the bladder, like alcohol and caffeine.

Drink cranberry juice, but NOT if you have a personal or family history of kidney stones.

DO NOT douche or use similar feminine hygiene products.

Wear cloth undergarments.

Best of Luck,

Try taking acidophilus while taking antibiotics and after for about a month. Take the capsules or liquid supplements and eat yogurt.
