My ex-husband supports our children, and is a great father, by no means a dead beat dad. But still owes back support for the time that I was on welfare. Will these arrears stop him from being able to renew his green card? He wants to take the kids to Mexico for Christmas, but says that he is experiencing delays in getting his green card processed. I know you can get your drivers licence suspended, but does anyone know about immigration laws and child support?

I heard they can stop you from leaving the country because of it....... but you should be able to do a search of federal child support laws on this thing.... try your google or other search engine........ God bless

Look if he owes back child support pay up. You stated he wants to take the kids to Mexico for Christmas. If he can afford that he can afford to pay up. We tax payers were paying your welfare while he wasn't paying you child support. As far as I am concerned he needs to pay up.
Green card has to do with if you are good while here and pay your bills. He might get his trip to Mexico without the kids if he doesn't pay up.
Anyways your welcome that we citizens of this country kept up with your welfare while the Farther didn't.

As far as I know, if the courts decide to file the case - it affects the green card process and immigration as well. If its one thing the US government frowns on - its dead beat dads who don't pay child support on time.

One agency has nothing to do with the other. I'm petitioned for my husband and the USCIS has not once, asked about his child support balance or situation. The USCIS IS MORE WORRIED ABOUT ALOWING CRIMINAL LIVING AMONG US THEN A DEAD BET DAD!

If he is middle eastern or North Korean then he needs to go back to his country !
