How come you will pass calculas 3 with no problem and make an A but cant calculate a basket of goods at the grocery store? How will you pass 2 classes of psychology at college level but you're dumbfounded when porn has ruined your marriage? How can you read so much in one day and absorb everything you read but forget to put oil in your car until your motor blows up? And last but not least you can program a computer but you can't cook an egg, why is that?? And no im not talking about myself, haha!!

What is a HUMAN BEING?They say "if you have love in your life it can make up for a great many things you lack. If you don't have it, no matter what else there is, it's not enough".
Good judgment comes from experience, and often experience comes from bad judgment. Our imperfections make us all unique and interesting. Peace to you.

After reading all the responses so far, I'm starting to wonder if there is some truth to the idea that common sense is taught at home?

I'm pretty smart, in terms of common sense, street smarts, and IQ (about 150).

My ex husband had a genius level IQ, degrees in engineering and computer science, very smart in that way, and rather egotistical about it too.... but good grief that man was a "Dee-dee-dee", to quote Carlos Mencia, when it came to every day LIFE!

He still is! one of the many many reasons we're no longer together.

His parents babied and catered to him and to this day they still bail him out of every bad situation. He had money so he never had to do much for himself, grew up with a housekeeper, never had to "get creative"... and they even are responsible for getting him his last 3 jobs (none of which he kept).

I had to laugh at the question, because he ruined TWO cars that I know of by not putting oil in! Mr. Genius couldn't seem to figure out that if he spent the car payment money at strip clubs, we WOULD end up with no car.

I guess it's just one of life's mysteries, and regardless of where common sense comes from, I'm glad *I* have it! Someone has to pass it on to our kids.

only women are capable of having smarts and commen sense at the same time. if men were capable of this they would be the ones giving birth. i used to always say, GOD CREATED MAN BEFORE WOMAN, BUT THERE IS ALWAYS A ROUGH DRAFT BEFORE A FINAL MASTERPIECE. i give my husband the grocery list and he knows what brands of certain foods that i eat, and sometimes i write it down in case he forgets if its been a while since hes been to the store. and he will come home with some crazy stuff that i have never bought. they will never understand us, and we could die before we ever figure out what makes them so stupid. you could tell him exactly what you are feeling and they will try to read more into it and turn it into a fight. as for the women who have no common sense my guess is that they inherited all there fathers genes, and anyone can be booksmart, including those with down syndrome. alot of psychiatrists cannot even keep there marriages together because they are trained to read way more into a situation than what is really there?????? i guess we will never know, but i know that common sense can't be taught. you either got it or you don't.

I have pondered that question many times so many educated fools out there I didn't get much schooling but am fairly intelligent IQ is only 130 but I have alot of common sense which has been so valuable to me in life it seems you either have it or not it also is street smarts it seems the less sheltered you are in life and have to get out there early to make a living or your parents did the more common sense you have when mom and dad do it all for you something comes up missing

because book smarts are taught at school, and common sense is mostly learned from your home life. Some people dont have that chance to learn from their parents, or their parents just dont care...i'd take someone with common sense over book smarts anyday. books are easily learned...

I have met both men and women who are like that. I had a girlfriend like that. She had a very high IQ (I considered it idiot quotient) but she had negative common sense. Landed her in a lot of funny situations.

Unfortunately, I am almost that person. I have book smarts and almost no common sense. I don't know how it happens. I wish I did, I'd fix it!!!
