first baby born 16 wks premature. Tests were conducted no infections found present, no other possible causes but doctors say that it was due to an incompetent cervix. WHat is the likelihood of this happening again, and what can I do to have a normal safe and happy pregnancy without worry. What can be done to prevent this from happening again?

It doesn't go away, but that doesn't mean every baby will be premature. My best friend has the same problem and she mananged to have three children without any complications. Listen to your doctor and if you have any concerns, let your doctor know immediately. Check out ivillage.com for good pregnancy info. Trust yourself and best of luck.

I just found out when i was 5 and half months pregnant that i also had an incompetent cervix. Normally this is found early on at least within the first 10-15 weeks of pregnancy. What u should do is notify your doc of this fact. He can do what they call a clerge. ( I think I spelled it wrong). This is where they stich up the cerrvix so that way if u go into preterm labor the baby will be ok. Once u go into labor, or once the baby is full term then they take the stiches out. The only thing that you can do is try not to stress about it. Also, get as much bedrest as u can. The doc might just put u on bedrest until 34 or 36 weeks or for the duration of your pregnacy. I was put on bedrest until 34 weeks. I am currently 36 weeks as of today. Good luck. Google some information about it. That way u know about what would happen or could happen when he stiches u up

To the best of my understanding, the doctor will do a stitch of the cervical opening in order to prevent the loss of the pregnancy. When labor is imminent the stitch is removed.

As you probably know, "incompetent cervix" means the cervix is not strong enough to hold the pregnancy once the fetus grows bigger than it is now.

I don't really know why your doctor didn't discuss this with you. You should make a list of all your questions so you can get all the answers you need.

Here's a line to a site that backs up what I said:

I have been given pregnant with my 2d while my first became 8 months previous. I did it on objective by way of fact i needed them close in age. i don't understand if i could have completed it on a similar age after having long gone by using it or not. Having 2 in diapers on a similar time is tough. My oldest had to advance up somewhat swifter on the grounds that I had the recent infant. yet hi those are small issues not problems. do not worry approximately human beings. tell them while they help your loved ones they are able to have some enter. Congratulations.
