Living in Sydney and looking at rental properties in Melbourne but don't know the areas.
We want to live somewhere safe, nice places to go out and central to shopping, transport.

Hi,
Im a rental manager in the western suburbs and I can tell you a few good suburbs to live in

1, Hopper Crossing,Point Cook, Tarneit
These areas are realy booming at the moment with new estates and new shopping centres, not to far from the city about 45 mins by car, at the moment rental propertys are great becuz they are all new homes and at realy affordable prices.

Do you want to live in the city??? becuz if you do generally you will be renting an apartment or flat at high prices, unless your lucky enough to find a bargain, and obviously if your in the city you are close to everything, casino, zoo, pubs, clubs, resturants etc.

3. Mornington Penninsula
Is great and realy lovely but not as close to the city and depending on what part you live in rentals do vary from high to low prices, but still a place i like to go visit!

There are alot more but id end up writing a novel, if you want you can email me and i would be happy to help....!

It depends on how much money you are willing to spend. Anywhere in suburban Melbourne is central to shopping and as long as you avoid Doncaster, you are close to transport. (There is nothing wrong with Doncaster, it just has no train line). Generally speaking, the Eastern suburbs have the best reputation, but are also the most expensive. Glen Waverly and surrounds is beautiful, and has all you require (and some room for the kids to run around). Also, when searching, look at a few photos of rental properties in the area, if the properties are not well maintained, then odds are the area is not an ideal place to live.

I'd recommend you move to somewhere close to either a tram or train line and or freeway transport. Yes it depends on how much money you want to spend and also moneys a factor

You could try Ashburton, it's a suburb in the inner east close to transport and iconic Chadstone shopping ctr. It's a leafy suburb with a nice single lane main road. Close enough to city and 5 mins from Hawthorn, Armadale, Camberwell cafes bars etc. Also got good schools around there

Chelsea, Edithvale, Mordialloc are very nice family suburbs and around 40/45 minutes from the city. The beaches are nice and the atmosphere relaxing. Mordialloc has great schools and is a good place to raise children.

I herd Eltham is really nice and can cater for all your needs, but to be totally honest with you melbourne and all of the rest of victoria is going through a major water problems at the moment, trust me i know, some towns will have no water in less then 12 months, go some place with lots of water like Brisbane, water restrictions have already been put in fource in most of this state and i have herd there is going to be a very dry summer.

any where on the Mornington Peninsula from Frankston down
Frankston is probably the best as housing is still reasonable .
the primary schools in the area get good results , and the high school gets the tenth highest VCE scores in the state .
There are also good private schools to choose from .
Close to the beach and the Mornington Peninsula National Park .
Excellent play grounds and sporting clubs .
The life saving club is a must in Summer .
please view my 360 to see a run down on the Peninsula
Plenty of places to do day trips on holidays.
I'm about to include Frankston in my 360 .I have already given a run down on the Mornington Peninsula

you do want to be near a train line but you do not want to be close it it... it seems to attract bums and losers... mornington is wayyyy to far from the city no matter what anyone says... you shoudl try mulgrave, glen waverly, mt waverly, wheelers hill...they are close to train stations but they have a good distance from them....
try to avoid places near noble part mc donalds as loser hang there... the places to avoid are dandenong, parts and not all of north dandenong, noble park, springvale doveton, cranburn, as they all seem to breed the not so poliet people... but avoid dandenong (espically central) and springvale ( again espicially central)
good luck
god bless
