Is this real or a scam?
If so, does anyone know where I can hear on on the web?

In Australia we have ads for these ringtones. They are along the lines of, " Fool your teachers and parents and get this silent ringtone......" Supposedly only other kids can hear it.

Yes and no. It is true that as people age, they lose high frequency response, so in theory, an older person will not hear frequencies a younger person will hear. I would not count on it though. I find younger people these days with ipods and earphones crank up the volume and it does damage to the hairs in the cochlea which is makes you hear sounds, much like those of us (I'm 58) in the boomer generation did at the concerts in the 60's at the Fillmore Auditorium when the noise level was loud enough to cause physical pain close to the stage. I never did this, and the last time my hearing was checked it was 150% of what an average person my age hears, and I spent 20 years in enginerooms in submarines, but then, from day one, I protected my ears. I learned from my grandfather, a boilermaker, who lost most of hearing because of the high noise level in his work place.

I read in a nationally distributed magazine about 1 month ago that this particular ringtone is real. I don't remember where or how it can be purchased.

Haha! I thought it was a joke! They have it on MTV in the US, and the price was like $30 a month, so I was assuming it was someone's idea of a prank.

I am not sure I get this. There are ringtones that people can't hear? What is the purpose of that? So you won' t know your phone is ringing? I have never heard of this.
