Today is karva chauth and I am wondering why indian ladies suffer whole day without even drinking water. Do they love their hubbies so much or they just do it for sake of it ? or they do it to get gift only?

First of all. Karva Chauth was on Oct 10. Not today. It is not a suffering or gift greediness. Here is some info about the Karva Chauth.

Karwa Chauth is a fast undertaken by married Hindu women who offer prayers seeking the welfare, prosperity, well-being, and longevity of their husbands. A married woman who observes this vrat is called ‘Saubhagyavati’ (joyous and happy state of wifehood).

The festival of Karva Chauth was emerged as a day to celebrate the season of autumn and enjoy the company of friends and relatives. But later on, many mythological legends were added to give it a religious touch.

Karwa Chauth is considered one of the most important fasts observed by the married Hindu women. On this day the women pray for the welfare and long life of their husbands. The festival is followed mainly in the northern parts of the country.

Karwa Chauth signifies the selfless bond of love between a husband and a wife. When your wife exemplifies selfless love by refraining from food and water for a whole day, it is your moral responsibility to appreciate her love and make her happy.
