I'm running out of time and want to complete my MBA. Make a long story short, I want to earn my MBA from university of phoenix online. Is this school recognized? Will employers accept a degree in "management" from this university.
I found this quote at their site:

University of Phoenix, as an institution, is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), previously known as the "Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA)

Is this a legitmate university (good enough accreditation)? Not a scam?

GOD BLESS YOU FOR YOUR HELP!!

CBS ran a story highly critical of the University of Phoenix, that put the quality of the degree seriously in question.

Their story ran a list of others which also were questionable.

The University of Phoenix is a legit and accredited school. They have both online and traditional classroom-based classes and have been around for quite a while. It is certainly not a scam or a 'diploma mill'.

I live in Phoenix and work for a major international corporation here and we have a number of people who got degrees (especially MBA or adult-education related degrees) from U of P.

I would say that for a major company, an MBA from the U of P would be recognized and appreciated, but probably not held in the same level of esteem as an MBA from a traditional university (like ASU). It is hard to rate such things, but I would say that it would carry about 2/3s the 'weight' as an MBA from a well-known traditional university.

The reason for the lower prestige is partly because they are a new breed of school aimed at working adults and don't have traditonal university things like sports teams, homecoming parades, big ivy-covered buildings and other things that make a big tradtional university seem more 'real'. But it is also partly because the U of P professors usually don't have as high an academic background as at a university (many are professionals teaching on the side) and some of the classes don't involve as much face-to-face interaction with the instructor (due to the emphasis on having a flexible schedule).

The advantage of going to U of P (as you have probably realized) is that they are geared toward adults who already have some work experience and are already working full time and are not able to go to class in the middle of the day. Many people I know elect to go to U of P largely for this reason. And even if the degree does not carry the same weight, it is still much better than no degree at all.

UofP is a legitimate organization but they are not of the same accredidation as a state university or others of similar nature, but UofP is so well known now that most businesses will recognize it.
