i work 6p-6a and we're trying to get pregnant. I am aware that checking bbt is checked at the same time in am before you get out of bed. Is there anyway to do this in the afternoon when i wake up or is it STRICTLY in am to check this? Please help...

ok.. i understand that thank you for clarifying that, but does it not mess things up if you work nights 3 nights out of the week and then on my days off i sleep at night like normal people. is it still when you wake up no matter if its day or night?

This is a really good question. Honestly, I am not sure of the answer because the temperature change can be very subtle and AM is a good time because GRNH release is cylical. Your schedule might alter your body temps. Here is my recommendation:
1. Are you using BBT to see if you ovulate? If so, use a home ovulation kit from a drug store to check.
2. Are you being evaluated by a fertility endocrinologist, BBT is always their first step, if so, tell them about your work schedule.
3. Are your periods regular, if so you could do the math and plan conception. Also if you have mid cycle spotting or pain, you could use this as a sign in place of temperature bump.
4. Pick one of the two options and chart for the month and see if it biphasic. If it is, then you have your answer...

It's when you wake up. Think about it. If you work at night, then you are on a different clock than everyone else. Imagine if it was strictly in the AM that would mean that women on the other side of the planet would have to check in the PM because your AM is our PM. ;)
