On the PS2, there are too many hackers. It ruins everything. Then you get the massive lag. But lag goes with any online service.

The setup is poor. You have to have an account for each game you play. This is beneficial if you have other people that want to play in your household as they can all have separate accounts. However you can't see if any friends are online unless you're playing the same game. Xbox live allows you to see your friends online and what game they're playing.
Additionally every 12 year old on the planet tries to connect their 56-256k modems up to it and generates serious lag in the games.
(No offence to the 12 years that use it right)
On a positive side it doesn't cost anything to use ps2 online.
I like using it, except there are a lack of players a lot of the time.

Main Reason: The PS2 network is not structured for a community database. If a company wanted to add online playablity to a game, they would have to build their own online services, therefore you'll get a separate online account setup for each game. Unlike Microsoft's X-Box Live which has a centralized server, users can communicate across games, under one account. This makes it more user friendly for the consumer, and promotes a better community userbase.

Yup on line for the PS2 does suck. The one area that x-box has over the PS2 is in the on-line play. X-box live is the best on-line gaming experience hands down. The PS3 is said to have more on-line options then before, but x-box live is a lot better.

Right ps2 online is regarded as bad because no one uses it. In fact most of europe can't even use it as the modems and links are hard to find

I will tell why cuzz they are stupid wanna know it all bitches. PS2 online is awesome SOCOM, Final Fantasy, Battlefield 2 Modern Combat and many more. Xbox Live is lagging all the time plus you cant get a good gamertag is gay.

compared to xbox live, it's worthless.
The games aren't interlinked, there is no friends list, it's a hassle to setup, and Sony doesn't actively support it.
Don't get me wrong, i like the ps2, but the online play is very lack.
