I was driving in my dodge neon and i stepped on the gas petal and whenever i pressed the pedal the car began to slow down and grdually stopped.
What is the problem, and how much will it cost to fix it?
(i was told it might be the gas,but i put gas in the tank and it still didn't start.

Let's hope it's something as simple as moisture in the gasoline. Go to an auto parts place or Walmart and get some Dry Gas or Fuel System Cleaner. Pour the bottle into the gas tank. If you have a couple of friends have them help you shake the car to stir up the gas, I'm not joking. Try starting it, the car will run rough at first. But gradually the additive will cause the water in the system to be burnt off. Then the engine will be OK again. If not then you might need it towed to the shop. Good Luck

My guess is that it is the comuter in the car. Your best bet would be to take it to a Dodge dealer and have them put it on the computer to see what is wrong. The cost is between $60- $100. This will cost some money but not as much as following the advice of everyone else, which could be a costly adventure replacing things that do not need to be. If it is a computer problem than a computer to solve it would be best.

Sounds like a fuel pump. Can't be sure though. If you put in gas and that wasn't it then. Try this : turn off everything electronic. your radio, your heater/AC fan and anything that mike make noise. Locate your gas tank. Odds are it's under the trunk in a dodge neon. Have a friend or if you have to turn the key yourself. listen to the tank. If there is a "buzzing" noise that sounds like an electric motor that means your fuel pump is working if not then your fuel pump is bad. if it's bad you will need to get it towed to a shop or fixed. if it's good then you have other problems. your fuel injectors could be plugged or you fuel filter could be plugged
