The difference between a college and a university is that a college just offers a collection of degrees in one specific area, while a university is a collection of colleges. Another difference is that there are two year colleges and four year colleges. Universities are generally four year schools. Although with universities, you get advance to getting a higher degree(graduate, masters, doctorate or a PhD).

The age that people here in the USA enter colleges and universities is 18 and if you do finish school in four years, you will get out when you're 21. But that depends on whether you can finish all of your courses in four years.

Good luch with attending school here in the U.S.

Actually, the answer above isn't accurate. A whole bunch of departments put together make up a college. Departments range in titles from the Department of Math to the Department of English. A college can stand by itself, or it can be one part of a larger university. So one university might have several colleges within in it.

To make things more confusing, the terms colleges and schools can be used interchangebly. Colleges or schools within a university will have titles like the School of Pharmacy, the College of Sciences, or the School of Engineering. The School of Engineering might be divided into the Department of Electrical Engineering or the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

If you want a simpler answer, universities are usually larger than colleges and offer a more diverse field of study.

I'm in Canada. Here, a college is a technical school or mainly blue collar work. A university is a 3-4 year degree, or higher, of purely academia.

You would go to college to be a hairdresser, bookkeeper, librairian, or meat cutter. You would go to university to be a teacher, doctor, lawyer, professor, mathematician, nurse, etc.
