There is no life without hope. So being optimistic need not either be bad or sickening.
But when optimism crosses a limit to such an extent that one keeps hoping rather than accepting the reality and moving on to alternate options or objectives, it becomes an obsession with the person and a sickening trait for those who are close and connected with the person, especially the spouse.

Well sickening optimistic doesn't make a lot of sense. Optimistic means you think positive and look to the good of things how that is sick I am not sure. Unless it's not sick she meant. So if it's a bad thing I'm not sure. I would much rather have a optimistic person, than someone looking to the bad, now that is sick, and a bad thing. I think you need to ask her what she means, being optimistic is good, not sick.

I expect that a sicking optimist is a person who constantly looks for a bright out comes this could even happen during a total stuff up...The problem with exaggerated optimism is that it may view problems that are complex as cute and humdrum..This manner could be seen as aloof or disconnected from dealing with a problem..
I personally like some optimism but only when it's well founded

She means you're someone who always seems to look on the bright side of things even when things look pretty dire.
It's not really a horrible thing, but it's a line commonly used by someone who is pessimistic, implying that you have your head in the clouds and have no sense of the grave reality of life or a situation.

As far as the word suggest it does seem that the meaning of that is You assume too much.The level of assumption or optimism is sickengly high so it migth be that she knows its not Good for her but she still does that.
