Has anyone else had severe emotional reactions to taking b-control pills? All of the sudden, when I'm on them, life seems horrible, I want to die, I get paranoid that people will forget me, etc. Yes, I've stopped taking them. But is this common? Do people understand when you explain why you've been the way you've been?

Yes, an uncommon side effect of birth control pills is depression and with severe depression there can be paranoia and suicidal thoughts. You need to talk to your prescribing doctor. It's possible that another version of 'the pill' will be okay for you to take. Often times women have to test by trial and error which brand is right for them. Sometimes, no pill works. Do talk to your doctor about your other contraceptive options and your side effects.

If you're feelings have not gone away after stopping the pill, I suggest you talk to a counsellor.

sometimes changes in hormones can cause emotional reactions. Birth control pills are just that, hormones. If you had a reaction, you were wise to stop taking them until you could see your doctor. If you ever decide to use them again, make sure your doctor adjusts the dose.

Honey I do not think that it is the birth control pills that are making you feel that way.

I am not trying to be mean but maybe you should see a Psychiatrist to see if there is something else wrong. I do not believe that it is the birth control pills doing this to you.

Chances are that you are Bipolar and need to be evaluated to see if that is the problem. If so there are meds out there that will make you feel alot better. Why don't you give it a try it certainly cannot hurt.

Oh My Yes. Birth control pills are hormones, it can take a while for your body to adjust to this. You might want to mention this to your doctor, they may be able to start you on a low level antidepressant for a few months. Good Luck!

Hormonal birth control can cause moodiness and irritability that was not present beforehand. But, it will not cause "severe emotional reactions" or paranoia.
I would strongly encourage you to see a counselor to be evaluated for depression and/or anxiety.

That is not common or normal. You should talk to your doctor about your symptoms and talk about different birth control choices that won't cause such awful side effects. I'm sorry you had to go through that. Please find a bc method that works better for you. Best of luck!
