if you don't get the beep sound then that narrows it down to a few things...

1 - the cpu was not seated properly, reseat the cpu
2 - the memory was not seated properly, reseat the memory

btw - unplug all drives (i.e. floppy drive, hard drive, cd-rom, dvd-rom. Then, remove all cards except the video card. (i.e. sound card, usb card or whatever you have plugged in)

Try booting up with just the CPU+MEMORY+VIDEO CARD. You should at least get to the screen where the BIOS starts to check the memory for errors and then the screen will pause because the BIOS doesn't detect a hard disk. At this point, go ahead and shut it down and plug the drives in.

If you do the above step and still fail to get a beep, then something is wrong with one of the parts. Take it back and exchange it.

Your memory is not completely seated into the DIMM slots. Make sure the RAM sticks are inserted properly and fully seated until they are locked in by both locking tabs on either side of the slot. Your first memory stick should be in the slot closest to the CPU, then skip a slot and insert the other stick into it. They are usually color coded, so if the first slot closest to the CPU is blue then the 3rd slot should be blue also. If they are in properly, and your still having a problem, check your mobo manual to verify that you have the proper type memory in there. After you get this together, run "Memtest 86+" on the computer to test the memory. You'll need to make a "bootable" disk of this. Run it overnight, and if any red lines appear, then you have some bad memory. Then you'll have to test each stick of RAM separately.
