I have always had trouble getting myself to sit down and study. I do study but if I could only get myself to sit down and study more. I know there are drugs such as Adderall but I don't want drugs to help me concentrate. I want something natural.

Try this - it may be drastic but it worked for my daughter - think of how much "fun" it's going to be to pay back all those student loans if you flunk out of college!

See, it's working already, isn't it?

Think about something fun you want to do and use that as motivation to get your homework done quicker. Either that, or a more a better bit of advice might be, think about the poor grades you will get if you contiue to slack off on your studies. Think of the guilt you'll have for letting yourself and parents down for not meeting your potential. Maybe if you had applied yourself more you'd have a more successful career instead of a drive-thru job at Wendy's. Just some food for thought.

You have to prepare a study place. It needs to be private. It cannot have, telephone, tv, internet access, radio or a cell phone. Schedule a time to study. Allow two hours. Snack or drink before you begin. Study subjects in the order they will appear. Good times to study...very early in the morning before there are distractions. Try 5am to 7am. Do not try to study late at night..Study from 6pm till 8pm. Visit or phone friends later. Pre-study. Collect all the books and supplies you need. Extra idea. Work up separate notebooks for each subject. Include current assignments and due dates. Keep notes from each class in that subject book.

For me the biggest thing is to do it in bite size pieces. I can never sit and study for hours at a time. I study for 15 or 20 minutes, then do something else while my mind assimilates the information. Then I go back to studying. The big trick is to keep going back and not get distracted for too long.

I am a great procrastinator... The reason we do it is because whatever we should be doing is not fun.

The trick is finding ways to make it fun. Depending on the subject, there may be different ways to do that. You could use incentives (to start or end by a certain time) or devise little competitions within yourself as ways to motivate.

Give yourself an incentive to look forward to. Read a section or two, then listen to a song or two, do some more homework, have another quick break, etc. It also helps to switch subjects. Do some math, take a break, do some history, take a break, tackle some more math, take a break, etc. When you are done for the night, have some cookies and milk, that's what I look forward to anyhow.

From what i see, its a matter of motivation. Just use the 5 min trick. Just tell urself u'll study for an extra 5 minute. At the end of 5 minute u'll realise its not that hard to continue afterall! Try it! Gud luck.

I used to have a really hard time sitting down to study too because i get easily distracted, what works for me is to set up my desk with what i'll need (i.e. a snack, enough pencils and paper, etc.) and listen to my mp3 player. That way i'll have no excuses to get up and wander because i "need" something and i'm sufficiently entertained to study for a bit. I don't know if that helps your situation but regardless i hope you can find a solution : )

The one thing that can truely help me is to not work somewere cluttered, with only the stuff I need.
Generally, that means the library.
It may take some time to get used to, but eventually, all you have to do is work.
It took me about a month to start to really be able to block everything out and work, but it helped so much.
