liberal - so open-minded their brains have fallen out.

Someone wise once said, "If you are young and not liberal you have no heart, and if you are old and not conservative you have no brain." There is something very innocent and sweet about a true liberal. Are they somewhat naive? I would have to say yes. Are they evil? Absolutely not. They want to help everyone. That is a noble, although somewhat unrealistic desire. I am older than I am young. I am still liberal on certain issues, but with age I have become more conservative in certain areas. Peace to you.

How can they condsider themselves open-minded when for years the only thing coming out of their collectives mouths is..."It's Bush's fault." No matter what the subject the answer is always the same. After N.Koreas big test this weekend you'd think they would denounce Kim Jong Ill, but no....I hear Hillary and Ried saying it's Bush's fault. WOW what a surprise coming from the open-minded party.

thats the definition of liberal. of course being open-minded does not entail being open-minded about closed-mindedness. I have heard a lot of conservatives claim that liberals are intolerant because they oppose conservative attempts to ban gay marriage, abortion, stem cell reserach, darwinism, etc. Thats just pure nonsense. Being tolerant does not require banning gay marriage out of respect for the position of social conservatives. it would require making the laws as mute as possible regarding social issues like that, so that all people would be equally allowed to live their personal lives. Construing a defense of tolerance as intolerant of intolerance is certainly an Orwellian use of language. "Opposing intolerance is intolerant" is a mindless phrase.

Politics must take a stance on social issues: prohibit or allow. The binary nature of politics that makes it so that not both positions can be adopted. Mark D offers a good example: "They only thing open-minded means to them is that everyone else has to adjust to their way of thinking." But if politics is binary, and its hard to see how a political system could both prohibit and allow a certain action, then all political positions require that others adjust to your way of thinking. Nonsensical charges of being intolerant will always be possible, because it is simply not possible for the system to both prohibit and allow gay marriage, for example. A tolerant system will be the one with the maximum number of actions allowed, and it is the nature of politics that this system must exclude actions which cause the options of others to be unnecessarily limited.

I'm as open-minded as the next. Of course somethings I'm not going to bend on but for the most part I'm open for suggestions.

The people you are referring to aren't actually liberals. Adlai Stevenson was a liberal. The people commonly referred to as "liberal" nowadays are in fact totalitarians. If you do not go along with their way, you are the great satan who must be wiped out. This explains their irrational hatred for the current bland president of the U.S.

Amazingly enough, they do, although I have never seen a group try to stifle free speech more than the left wing nuts. The "shout-downs" that have taken place at Harvard in the past are particularly telling.

They dish a good deal of that "do as I say, not as I do" BS.

As much as Conservatives are.

Face it. Neither side has a monopoly on "open-mindedness".

The only group that I can think of that is truly open minded is the Libertarians.

Maybe Mark Foley could be interviewed by Jeff Gannon. Is that fair and balance for the backwards dyslexic gay republicans.

Sure, they CONSIDER THEMSELVES to be open-minded. But they can't see the forest for the trees. They only thing open-minded means to them is that everyone else has to adjust to their way of thinking.

True liberals certainly do.

Don't be confused by the way Bush uses the term, or any other politicians.

Right now we have a conservative party that believe in a republican democracy, they are called "Democrats".

And we have fascists that are called "Neocons" who have hijacked the Republican party.
