They use a fake glass made of sugar. They also use a special type of glass called breakaway glass which is used in car windows. It breaks without sharp edges.

because it is the cinema man. things that are suppose to happen don't, and things that aren't supposed to do.
on the other hand it is very important to take into consideration the speed of what is happening.
i ended up with 27 stitches in total when i "walked" through a window. i Walked though it did not run. and slipped on the glasses that were broken and rolled on them etc. n the other hand special type of glasses must be used that are fragile and their pieces do not result to dangerous cutting edged reamains.
there are ways to break a car window. either by protecting your fist with some cloth (or elbow) or be very quick in order To shatter the glass. Another important issue is pressure and some special points on the surface of the glass that has to do with its geometry tha will end up in a perfect and ”easy” breaking”. If you have some glasses to spare try this.

Try hitting lightly a sparking plug on a window. To your surprise it will easily shatter the window

so a little bit of speed, a lot of science and a cinematic approach should explain your question

Yep...Cirric has it.

Movie "glass" - windows, bottles, etc. is made of crystallized sugar. The normally razor-sharp edges you would expect from regular glass instantly melt when shattered due to the humidity in the air.
