I would say yes. I think because as a baby they are nurtured by their mothers, and fathers, and as toddlers and children as they grow. They learn and feel that emotionally closeness to them, and I belive it stay with them as they become adults. They need that love and closeness. I know my husband although he is a tough strong truck driver, he becomes a kitten when I cuddle him and rub his head like I would a baby. I do believe we all have that in us and it begins as a baby with birth and the closeness with our mothers and fathers. Being held close to comfort us, we all need someone we can confide in emotionally.

The loners may not agree, but it is true.
First of all we are social being and there is need for company.
More importantly, this company should be from someone close, otherwise it does not amount to company, it would be simple togetherness.
Most importantly, intellectual company can always lead to difference of opinion and bitterness, but in emotional relationship, there is that extra bit called give and take that wipes out possible bitterness.
Therefore your statement that people truly need to be emotionally close to another person is correct in all respects.

Most people do, and many times blindly so. The wise stays away from others as much as possible, not to become a servant of others or form into becoming another person.
Look at genius people; they easily satisfy themselves and have little need (so it seems) to be with others. The weak on the other hand, gets bored with himself/herself and needs to manipulate others (with so-called love, affection, etc.) to get more satisfaction from life.

Yes. It helps in one’s quest for one’s fundamental nature as also in the mitigation of the psychological distress coming in the way leading to happiness, oneness with existence and rest within.
It is much more useful than such practices as charity, austerity, pilgrimage and performance of religious rites.

People have a very basic need for appreciation, but also to feel as if they contribute to society. I believe that is the most predominant reason for close relationships.

Try not being close to anyone...and, you will answer your own question.
A new born baby will die, even if the baby is born healthy, if that baby does not have the warmth and love of a parent, or adult.

i would think so, if a person doesn't get close to someone they end up being depressed or old and grumpy. It is nice to have a companion to express your feeling too, and to enjoy good times with.
