Used to be, you were only supposed to wear white shoes and accessories between Memorial Day and Labor Day. No one seems to know where and why this "rule" came into being--but it served to separate the fashionable from the clueless. Wearing white shoes out of season was considered a very gauche mistake. By the way, you were only supposed to carry straw handbags, wear linen or seersucker, and wear sandals between Memorial Day and Labor Day also. Wearing them "out of season" was considered a big no-no too. These rules were mostly observed by the social snobs and especially, the social snobs from the south.
Most people ignore these rules today. There's no real reason for them and most young people today aren't cognizant of the old rules--or else don't give a rip. Frankly, these rules started to be widely flaunted about the time we ladies gave up wearing hats and gloves.
As far as bridal wear, white symbolizes purity. If you've been married before, or have children, then wearing white at your wedding is thumbing your nose at tradition--but most people don't care. If you haven't been married before, then you are presumed to be a virgin (even if you aren't), and wearing white is considered OK by most everyone.

White SHOES shouldn't be worn after Labor Day, they are for late Spring and summer. Everyone knows this. White blouses are fine in the fall, especially with a wool business skirt and matching jaket.
A woman who has had a child or a woman having her second or third marriage should not be wearing white -- it's for a childless bride and her first marriage who can plausibly pretend she's still a virgin. If that pretense is absurd or obviously false, white shouldn't be worn.
Women made these rules and nearly all women follow them. If you're a gothic or hard-core rebel, then dress accordingly; may I suggest Morticia Addams as a model in that case?

white shoes after labor day is an old fashioned, east coast kinda thing. Its got to do with the roads being dirt, then rain coming into season...labor day is supposed to be the last offical day of summer...you can wear white and shades of white, ivory, eggshell, ecru...that's why there is a color called, winter white. No one really follows that rule anymore, besides...white shoes usually look dopey anyway!
White color symbolizes purity. That's why a bride wears white...long ago (and a few cases these days) girls lived with their family until they married. they were usually very young, like 13 and 14 and most were virgins.
In Korea, ppl wear white for funerals. In India the bride wers red-I think that symbolizes a vibrant life of marriage. Not sure on that, but I know they wear red. Can you imagine a bride, all dressed in RED?! Wow! Crazy....

I believe it is you shouldnt wear white shoes after Labor Day. I was always told that Labor day is a sign of fall and white is a spring color (in regard to shoes). That is the only reason I know of.
