If your son is a minor, then it is YOU who is ultimately responsible for the damage to your one neighbours window, plus the 1st neighbour could technically hold you responsible for the loss of the rock since it was part of his property in the 1st place.
Not Kidding! The way that the courts look at it is, that it is not the rock that damages a window, but the people who throw the rock. I hope you can teach that to your son before he picks up anything else to throw around.

I don't know the law on that one but heck the person that did the damage should carry the responsibility sounds like the neighbour with the broken window doesn't want the person who's responsible but to use the broken window for his/her advantage to get at your other neighbour for another reason all together. Just maybe they never got along in the first place.

In short this all looks like a mind trip from the person with the broken window.

Search the laws in your state through your state's Secreatary of State Website.

It sounds like the first neighbor could get him for stealing a rock (a misdemeanor) and the second could get him for pulling an Ernest T Bass (vandalism). (Andy Griffin Show)

I would probably take the boy to go apologize and have him offer to repair or pay for the window (hope it wasn't lead or stained glass or else $$$)

Quit trying to get out of taking responsibility for your child. If you have any morals at all, you will do the right thing without having someone make you pay. What goes around, comes around.

Whoever threw the rock is responsible. It doesn't matter where it came from.

Who ever told you that must be smoking some really good stuff! Your kid did it and you will pay unless you make him. Beside you can't get blood out of a rock!
