3 Tab shingles are regular shingles, the 3 tab simply refers to the 2 cutouts in the shingle that creates "3" tabs. Your other option for "regular" shingles are architectural shingles which have no cutouts. This is a solid shingle, which in my opinion is easier to install since there are no "tabs" or "lines" to line up.
Starter shingles are the first row of shingles that you install at the edge of the roof when you start. When using 3 tabs you just take 1 of the 3 tab shingles and install it upside down so the cutouts are facing up.This is done to provide color between tabs of first course or row.
When using architectural you need to purchase "starter " shingles, which basically is a 3 tab shingle.
Also remember if you are using architectural you will also need to buy "cap" shingles to "cap" the peak of your roof.
Good Luck

Three tab shingles are regular shingles and can be used on just about all types of construction They are just the plain shingles with no depth to them like a laminated shingle. They have two notches cut out and the third of the shingle There are 3 bundles to a square, 1 square = 100 sq ft. the same shingle is also the starter shingle, but the shingle is turned 180 degrees and are placed along the edges of the roof. The top of the shingle with no notch goes on the outside edge continuing around the house. The starter shingle goes on first then the rest of the roofing on top of that

Everyone pretty much answered your question, but simply put:
They are all the same thing!
The starter shingles just referst to the first row of shingles you lay down. The bundle of shingles (sometimes called 3-in-1 shingles) will have the instructions on the bundle for how to install them. The only thing you might need a little help in understanding is how to shingle the valleys and ridgeline.

Shingles, as you ask, are cedar shake, nailed one at a time. In a lot of areas, they are now banned, due to fire regulations. 3- tab shingles are composition asphalt, bought in bundles of 3 to 4 bundles per square to equal 100 square feet of roof. Starters are placed as the first row (bottom) of the roof, then you start the roofing process. Starters can be bought, as half shingles, or you can order regular roofing shingles, and turn them upside down. This prevents any seams from over- lapping, which would expose the felt paper, which is primarily the water proofing material on any type of roof. Felt paper water proofs, the outer layer, be it shingles, tile, slate, etc, protect the paper, and give your house the look you want. Hope this helps.

3 tab shingles are regular shingles, Look at the house with shingles around you and notice the have 3 tabs at the bottom. Starter shingles are also regular shingles place along the bottom row, upside down withthe tabs pointing towards the peak. If you are asking all these questions u might be best off by hiring a roofer.

Depending on the condition of your roof and the age.If it's in good shape other then the moss there's no reason that you can't clean it.There are products made to clean mildew off roofs that will not harm your shingles. Check your local hardware or paint store.Rent a pressure washer and Always wash down the roof never up against the shingles. If you fill comfortable walking on your roof do it yourself if not hire a pro. Mildew or moss becomes very slippery when it gets wet.
