He's the king of the house right now and anytime the king is overthrown there is going to be a power struggle. He has not had guidelines before so he figures he's not needing them now. If you don't come up to your dad duties now and be the king of your household, don't expect Jr. to respect you when he becomes a teenager and you ask him to please quit staying out for days at a time. Set limits and boundaries now on the little things, then when time comes to bigger issues in his life he won't be so rebellious because he has learned respect for his dad and mom and his place within the family unit.

I have a 2 year old that will stay up all night if I let her. Now we just lock the door let her scream for 30 minutes and then she's fast asleep in her OWN bed. Midnight calls and 4 am calls are now handle the same way. As harsh as that sounds you have to put your foot down. You can't let him run your life by his wants. He's 3 he should be in bed by 9 at the latest.

I know this will sound terrible, but who is the kid and who is the parent????? If he is like this at 3 how do you think he will be at 14,15,16???? You have no control. You must take it back. No yelling, no fighting, but rewards and consequences....and , this is a big one, be consistent. It will be worse before he knows that you really mean it, and start to comply. He goes to bed at 9pm. or no TV the next day--at all. or he loses an hour at a time...kids have no attention span at 3...keep that in mind. Anyway, what are his favorite things to do and or eat?? That is how you begin. You get him to do what you want him to do, and he gets a reward. etc.,etc., You have your work cut out for yourself. Good luck. and don't give up...never give up. You can win this.

It may sound kinda harsh but if he is refusing to go to bed, you need to when you get up MAKE him get up. He is entirely too young to be staying up so late. If it's been going on for some time, he has himself on this schedule. You need to break this schedule. Make him get up early in the morning, deal with him being miserable and then he'll be ready for bed that night.

If you lose your temper with him, you'll harm him for life, guaranteed. Either love him or give him away.

Just use the shoes you don't like, you know, the uncomfortable ones.
Beating him will help wear them in.
