I go to school full-time, and work part-time (26 hours in 3 days).
It's starting to get to me, I'm always tired, always discouraged. Losing interest in my classes because I'm more worried about making my financial ends meet - car payments, insurance, phone, etc.
No-one is helping me what so ever. No one in my family cares about me going to college, so they won't help me financial wise. Not even a dollar. All of my student loans are in my name, along with anything else I own. I'm almost reaching my breaking point - I don't know what I should do. I like where I'm working, but I know education will help me in my life alot. I know it will get me a better job eventually and give me stability.
What's really bothering me, is that I NEED stability. I can't handle worrying about my bills, and school at the same time. It's too much for just me alone, but I have no one to help me.
Any ideas?
I don't know which way I should chose.

I work at O'Rielly auto parts - and they talked to me before I left for school if I wanted to be trained to further my advancement there, but I told them about school.
My major is Aerospace Engineering.

And I'm only a freshman in college. That's why I thought about working for a while more, then going to school maybe in a little while, or sticking it out.
4 years will be a long time...

for fifteen Months I worked in A gas station from 6 to 12 midnight. I went to school at 7:30 and came home at 4:00 Pm. I studied till 2:00 AM most of the days. I saw a guy on a Friday sitting on a lawn chair and I wondered how it must be to have time just to sit and do nothing.
I know just how you feel, but you do need a pick me up. If you can get it in liquid form, you should be taking a Vitamin B complex group. It will increase
your energy and you will make it through school.
I am currently taking a complex called Mega Vitamin B complex. and I really have the energy I need not. Before I was really dragged out.
Good luck

GIVE UP, eh ??
Dear Jessica,
U MUST GIVE UP !! 'Coz after reading this part of ur answer if still u persist in saying that ur future is vague then I think u r better in giving up rather than chasing ur dreams.
Life is always a struggle to survive and as the saying goes "Its the survival of the fittest". There is no place in the list of 'success' for the weak and weakness is a disease like aids that u pick up from negative influences of ur life.
Have u ever come across the metamorphosis of one of the ugliest crawlers 'the caterpillar' into one of the most beautiful winged creatures in the world 'a butterfly'. Do u ever realize the amount of pain it has to go through for just being alive ? A pessismist would say " what's this guy blabbering about, we are not caterpillars afterall !!" But that's what empathy is all about - feeling what others feel. Once- ' A biology teacher was teaching how a caterpillar turns into a beautiful butterfly. He told the students that in the next couple of hours the butterfly would struggle to come out of the cocoon, but no one should help it. Then he left. The students were waiting and it happened. The butterfly struggled to get out of the cocoon. One kid took pity and against the advice of the teacher decided to help it. He broke the cocoon to help the butterfly so it didn't have to struggle anymore. But shortly afterwards the butterfly died.
When the teacher returned,he was told of what happened. He explained to this student that it is the law of life that the struggle to come out of the cocoon actually helps develop and strengthen the butterfly's wings. By helping the boy had deprived the butterfly of its struggle and the butterfly died.
Apply this principle to ur life. Nothing worthwhile in life comes without a struggle. My dear the path of life is always rough, lonely and dark but don't worry - its everybody's case. U have to fight ur odds alone and share ur bounty. Its better saying ' I didn't than I've tried", the former gets the credit of not having the time to and the latter - well, he gets the credit of being the loser.
The concept of 'give up' is the main door to failure. Its is also known as a backdoor.
If u still feel like giving up then YOU MUST.
Oh! About stability - don't depend upon medicines. They may give u a temperory boost but will eventually kill u in the end. Try making fruits ur primary diet. The best for u will be organic foods.
All the best Jessica. I'll see u on the top.
Peace be with you.

It's common to feel like giving up when everything are just so cumbersome. School itself is already draining enough, let alone work that requires so time. It's definitely okay to feel like giving up, for i am very sure it has crossed a lot of our minds. Maybe it is overloading you and you should stop. Sometimes we don't have it like others and we push ourselves because we think oh others are doing it, I should be able to too. I would suggest keep preservering and see where it leads you. Great things are achieved though not giving up. Maybe in the long run, it will pay off. Also, college is not just to give you a better job, it gives you knowledge and skills that will be for the rest of your life. If you feel like its hard, just take some time off and make the money and come back. It won't be good to pay for the tuitions and books , and not being able to learn all that you can from that course. That would just be cheating yourself. But keep going if feel you should. ust remember not to lose hope, cause losing that would be the dead end of the road. Goodluck!

You seem to be a smart lady to do what you are doing. Don't give up on college. That will be the worst mistake. If it is getting to you that much then take fewer classes till you feel okay to handle a full load but don't ever quit going. Sometimes we need a litle breathing space. Once you quit, you will never go back. Seen too many of my friends do that. If you feel discouraged now, wait till you don't finish college. You will kick yourself later in life. It is okay to get discouraged. We have all been through that. There is no sense regretting it later. Suffer some pain today to enjoy the riches of tomorrow. :)
Edit : 4 years is nothing. It will go by very fast. Before you know it you are there.

Is there any way you can take less classes? Maybe you go to school part-time and work part-time if you must. Also, have you considered working on campus? Maybe that would make things easier for you...
I'm really sorry to hear about what you're going through. I'm always amazed by people like you who have to study and make money. I am not independent enough or strong enough to do that. The good thing is though is that after you graduate you will have experienced having to take responsibilities for yourself and taking care of yourself so you will not struggle as much as inexperienced people like me.
By the way, what degree are you pursuing right now?

its not bad to feel like giving up everyone feels that way sometimes, but giving up definately wont do anything for you, you would only be working against yourself, the first thing i would do is speak to someone you trust from school or work, or at least someone you're comforatable with teacher would be a good start, the advice i would ask them for is how to better organize your time, i know what your thinking "how is that gonna help?" but hear me out i was in a similar situation not that long ago, being organized and having good time management helps relieve a lot of stress and give you a new perspective on things, it helps you handle things better, the next thing i would do with your bills is to talk to the companies etc that you owe money explain your situation a lot of times they'll lower payments and such to ensure that they still get them, if they dont you can always talk to a financial advisor a lot of those companies will talk to youfor free, also some student loans will allow you to put of making payments for a certain amount of time my husband had them push his back for several years, and please stay in school i know it seems hard now but as the saying goes this too shall pass, eventually all your hard work will pay off and things will get easier it just takes time, and organization, i dont know if i can push organization and time management enough those things will help add stability to your life. please dont give up and if you ever need someone to vent to please feel free to e-mail me

It is to bad that your family is not supportive of you going to college. Now days getting a good education is so important. It is tough having to worry about your classes and your finances on your own. Stick with school in the end you can look back and be proud that you made it through. Just remember that their is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Don't give up. Do you really want to upset your already seemingly unstable life by having to pay back student loans for a degree you didn't even earn? There's been plenty of times in my life when I felt like giving up too but you just have to keep going and convince yourself that things are going to get better because they will. I personally would recommend trying to find a healthy means to deal with your stress, like taking a yoga class or meditating or even seeing what type of counseling services are available to you though your school. Good luck to you.

While it is good to worry about your bills, you really need to worry more about finish school too. I am sorry that you are not getting help from anyone in your family, that is tough I know, but just remember when you finish school and have a stable job and they need help. That is when they will come to you. I hope that you really will give your school a chance, as far as where you are working, I am glad you like it, but is it a place that you can grow into? What kind of degree are you getting? Well good luck!

You need to remember how far you've already gotten. It'd be a complete shame to give up now. Maybe look into getting a room mate, but I realize that can be bothersome. It'd be perfect to get a good one though to help with bills, but there is always a chance of getting a horrid one that just becomes yet another problem for you to focus on. Keep your head up and keep telling yourself how important it is to finish. In the end, it will be worth it to tell people you did it all on your own, completely.
