If you want performance, no production Honda engine can match the EJ25 on the Subaru STI.
Durability.......well, you know the name Honda means reliability.

The engines are pretty drastically different.
Honda goes the normally aspirated route and depends on very high RPMs to realize power. Honda's bread and butter is its Inline 4 cylinder engine. If you compare the best of those engines (the one in the S2000) you get about 240 hp at like 8500 RPMs. This is fun in its own way because there's nothing like revving up to that power peak.
Subaru uses a Flat (Boxer) 4 cylinder engine. These engines are pretty good because they are more compact and can be placed lower to give a car a lower center of gravity. They also produce a nice rumble. If you compare the best of this model the 2.5 liter turbo in the STi you get about 300 HP at around 5500 RPM. Its a different beast to say the least.
If you compare the STi to the S2000 the STi is faster in a straight line. Around a racetrack the S2000 is slightly faster (slightly). The STi however has AWD so it can perform in a variety of situations.
In terms of durability Honda is well know for reliability but Subaru is actually right up there with it.
Oh and if you compare the best best best engines from Honda and Subaru in a production car you are actually better off comparing the Honda V6 in a NSX or the new engine in the RL vs. the STi Flat 4.

subaru turbo boxer engines have more performance, the regular 2.5 non turbos are so so. Honda has lots of different engines, but will always outlast the subaru's

The Si is front wheelpersistent and has an financial device engine with the gasoline saving i-vtec (i think of, i neglect, i havent regarded at automobiles in a lengthy time). The Impreza is an all-wheelpersistent beast powered by utilising the very muscular and testosterone inducing boxer 4. pay attention to each and each rev up and you will see which one is made for the guy. 2. the terrific subaru in terms of overall performance is the Impreza WRX STI Spec C, made and offered in Japan purely. the U. When comparing the B9 Tribeca to the Pilot- it frankly wasn't a comparison for me. The styling of the Pilot was so dull, that it wasn't even in the running. Inside and out, and the feel and drivability of the Tribeca was so far above the Pilot- that reliability wasn't really a consideration.
Honda's overall might be a tad more reliable than Subie's but it's really fairly close.

Depending on your needs.
If you want quick response, drivability, you go for Subaru Imprezza
If you want style, reliability, smooth acceleration, go for Honda S2000

Both are good, but Suabru's are better engineered and have better reliability, dependability, safety, and handling. Honda has better marketing/advertising.
