I would say...used big boat...people want to start with a small car, that doesn't work for new drivers...if you are such a dumbass as to be asking this question remember this.
1) Don't be afraid to walk away. If you don't like the car, or the price, just tell them you'll walk away, then stick to it.
2) Try all lights, windshield wipers, check fluids, open the hood, everything when buying used. Radiator fluid is not a bad thing to be leaking as much as oil, power steering or transmission. Any color other than orange or blue is bad fluid coming out from under your engine. A definite do not buy.
3) You generally get what you pay for.
4) Brake hard, over-accelerate, try it out in your test drive. Test to see if it wanders on the highway.
And last, wear your seatbelt and don't get caught doing stupid things. I encourage doing them, but don't get caught. And always go for where it says 3800 injector, if it says 3100 anywhere in the engine compartment definite do not buy. Also, i-4, v-6 and v-8 are good engine any others (boxer 4, straight 3, inline 6) are definite do not buys.

Cars DO exist for less than $500, but you either have to know someone or plan on doing some serious maintenaice work on it to get it going. My little brother bought a car off of one of my friends for $400, and less than a week later he has close to $800 in it from repairs...but it runs and drives fine. But....he did all the work too (with some help from me) so that saves Tons of money there.

My first was a Subaru for $400 five years ago. Car with 4 wheel drive.
I had some fun in that thing. Or a honda, any one you can get for under that price.

beats me. i'd say look in those podunk dealerships for cheap cars. sometimes you can buy from a relative or friend or just someone who wants rid of a car for that.

while its possible to find a vehicle for that price, be prepared to dump way more than your buying price in maintaning and repairing the vehicle.
