k my freind bought an ipod (the old big 20gb) off of ebay and everytime we try to plug it into a computer to change the music it says on the computer power surge in the usb port.
right now i have it because he got a new one. he takes it and charges it on a power pack (i think) so i can still listen to the music that was already on there. any ideas on how to fix this so i can put music on it?

Well try transfering all the music off the ipod and updating it. Or wiping the drive clean. A friend of mine did that and it worked relatively well.

Although the best way to do it is to just bring it into tech serve.
Or post on a Apple Forum. They usually have techies floating around there and can anwser the question better.

Did you try switching ports?? Mp3's typically get their power though the USB port from the computer which also charges the battery. So, if your having a power surge in the USB port it means that the computer's USB port is the problem. The way the AC charger works is through the USB connection on the ipod. Do you have any problems with any other USB devices on that computer? Like your printer or flash drives etc.?
