The only way a person will quit smoking is if they truely want to quit. I smoked for years and years, then one day hated it. I quit cold turkey and havent had one since. It was hard, but I was dedicated and had the desire to stop.

First - do you suffer from depression? Wellbutrin helps people to not want it.
Nicotine is a very powerful addiction, sometimes as poweful as heroin or cocaine. It is very hard to quit. It can take people several times of trying to quit before there is a succesful outcome. Each time you quit you learn what helps and hurts. A great deal of effort and hard work will be needed from yourself in order to become succesful. Here are 5 keys to help you quit:
1 - Get ready - set a quit date
change your environment
get rid of all ash trays and both cigarette and the cigarette butts around the house, cars, work.
don't let people smoke around you.
once you set the date no smoking, not even a puff

2 - Get support - studies show that you have a greater chance of recovery if you have support. Family, friends, co-workers, etc.

3 - Learn new skills and behavior - keep yourself distracted so you won't want to smoke. It helps if you change your daily routine: eat in a different place as you would normally do, switch choice of beverages you drink, no alcohol!

4 - Get medication and use it as directed - F.D.A approved medications
bupropion SR - PRESCRIPTION
nicotine gum - OVER THE COUNTER
nicotine inhailer - PRESCRIPTION
nicotine nasal spray - PRESCRIPTION
nicotine patch - BOTH

5 - Be prepared for a relapse or difficult situations - Relapses if it happens, it is usually within the first 3 months
avoid alcohol
avoid being around other smokers
prepare for weight gain - even though some of those medications delete that side effect.
bad moods and depression can occur

YOU WILL FEEL SO MUCH BETTER IF YOU CHOOSE TO QUIT ONCE YOU ARE PAST THE CRITICAL STAGE (FIRST 3 MONTHS)

Try chewing on herbal sticks. Some shops have them. Try chewing gum.

Find things to keep your mind occupied. Keep educating yourself in such a way that you learn all about the ill effects of smoking for yourself and others.

There are some fake smoke herbs out, but you would still be playing with fire.

Any other form of nicotine will work well, since that is what you are addicted to. Patches, gum, etc. will completely eliminate the body's cravings (but not your mind's bad habits).
