I am getting between 7000 & 10000 spams a month. Obviously, I am quite vulnerable to virus and spyware. I can start another email address and user name to replace the old one, but it takes awhile for everyone to get used to the new one.
Then there are good reasons to have "junk" IDs. When I am not sure whether to use what seems like a safe site on a regular basis. Example: when I put my job resume on Yahoo Jobs, I got a lot of spam mail. Could not discriminate between real companies and scams. My spam list started getting huge, and much of it got through the filters.
Also, it is a good way to keep lists of addresses separate using another screen name. Or maybe I want one to be serious & 1 for joking around. One could be home based company name. Of course there are other household members , and the list goes on.
There are legit reasons; it is not a bad thing.

Sometimes multiple people use the same computer. It would really be a pain for them to have to use the same id. Since it is then possible to use multiple id's from one computer, then it is possible for one person to have more than one ID, since Yahoo can't tell who is using the computer.
