i'd say runnning hot water - but my dad actually grew up in an apt in NYC in the 40s and 50s with no running hot water - they boiled it for baths and laundry - so I could probably endure without it.
I think when storms cost us our power, even worse than not being able to check our email and read the news online is not having hot food to eat. We could always cook over wood or such, so I think refrigeration is the key to having decent warm food. That, or a can opener.
