Seattle is a great city. We have beautiful scenery (mountains, trees, water, etc) and a moderate climate. It does get dark and drizzly in the winter months, but the summers here are gorgeous! (And besides, if you are coming from Anchorage, you are used to much worse in the winter!)
Seattle is known for it's neighborhoods. Outside of the downtown area, each neighborhood has it's own restaurants, shops, and activities and each definitely has it's own vibe. To learn more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seattle_neighborhoods
The cons to living here are the cost of living and the traffic...and yes, as someone else mentioned, we seem to have more and more Californians moving up here these days, trying to make Seattle "more like San Fran used to be"....I've actually heard two people say that!!
But overall, this is a beautiful area with lots of culture, nature and anything else you can imagine. I think you'll like it here!

Like all of the Western part of the state it does rain quite a bit though this last season saw very little. I don't know if that's a blessing or not. It does get cold here, though being from Alaska your probably use to that. We do get snow though usually not a great deal. Parts of Seattle are high in crime while some of the outlying areas are lower. People, I have found are pretty friendly and helpful. The prices are pretty high in the Seattle area so here again it is a bit cheaper on the outside. There are many areas that are fairly close by for hiking, camping and the like also Seattle does have a lot of places to go for culture. There are many museums and arboretums to visit. All in all Seattle, really isn't to bad at all and I'm a country person at heart.

Excuse me? stay far off from Everett? I stay interior the Rucker Hill neighbourhood of Everett and it quite is mind-blowing. Quiet, secure, very friendly human beings. super 1900-1920's Craftsman properties that folk proudly shop up. There are some crappy aspects of Everett like the different city yet there is truly beneficial ones besides and various downtown revitilization occurring. we are in basic terms approximately 25 minutes out of Seattle, an hour and a a million/2 from the two Canada and the Stevens pass ski section and appropriate alongside the sea. And the homes (a minimum of on the 2nd) are nonetheless low value in comparison to King County. FYI - invoice Gates does not stay in Bellevue - he lives in Medina.

I grew up near Seattle, and in my opinion, Seattle and the surrounding area is the best place for lots of culture, hiking, camping - to me it's the perfect place and I'd never want to be anywhere else.

I've only been to Seattle once in my adult life - and only briefly (in '82) - but I really liked it. It's not too flat - coming from San Francisco, the city of hills, I don't like flat places. Not knowing it well, I can only tell you of one negative and two positive points of Seattle: the negative is heavy frequent rains; the positives are it's proximity to the ocean and the beautiful geography nearby. I've seen most American cities, and Seattle is one of the few in which I'd live. (The others are SF, Chicago, Boston, Savannah, and Santa Fe.)
