The Oakland A's won three consecutive World Series in 1972, 1973 and 1974. They were incredible, with Reggie Jackson leading the way in hitting, Catfish Hunter and Vida Blue in pitching, and Rollie Fingers as a closer (new trend at that time). Fantastic nicknames like Blue Moon Odom and Sal Bando. The Red Sox defeated them in the AL playoffs in 1975 as they were trying for 4 in a row. However, the last time they won was the 1989 'Earthquake Series' between them and the SF Giants.
